PURPOSE:
Pursuant to 13A of the Organizational Act where “The chief executive shall nominate a person,” CEO Thurmond is nominating Ms. Genet Hopewell for appointment onto the DeKalb County Board of Assessors. Ms. Hopewell will be placed in Ms. Vivian R. Ingersoll’s seat that expired on December 31, 2023. This is a six (6) year term which would begin upon confirmation and expire December 31, 2029.
NEED/IMPACT:
The DeKalb County Board of Assessors provides an essential service of assessing the fair market value of property for ad valorem taxation purposes. Ms., Genet Hopewell is an attorney with over 30 years of experience as a litigator and has provided advise and counsel to the tax commissioner, represented DeKalb County in tax appeals, handled tax sales, drafted ordinances and legal opinions. Attorney Hopewell’s knowledge and experience qualifies her to join the DeKalb County Board of Assessors.
