PURPOSE:
To adopt the attached substitute resolution to provide for a contextualization statement for the relic cannon previously removed from the Decatur Square.
NEED/IMPACT:
In 2021, the Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution to move a relic cannon from the Decatur Square. The relic cannon had been placed on the Decatur Square in 1906 by the Agnes Lee Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The cannon was removed in October 2021. This resolution provides for a contextualization statement that will be placed on a marker in a location to be agreed upon by the governing authority of DeKalb County, the City of Decatur, and the DeKalb History Center.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Appropriation of $5000 from the 2024 District 2 Reserve for Appropriation Funding for the marker
