PURPOSE:
To consider accepting $323,013 for the 2024 Local Solicitation Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG), to expire on September 30, 2027; and to approve the addition to the fleet of one additional sedan for the Sheriff's Office; and to consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute the necessary documents.
NEED/IMPACT:
The United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), allocated funding to DeKalb County, Georgia under BJA's 2024 Local Solicitation Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) in the amount of $323,013. The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program (42 U.S.C. 3751(a)) is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. JAG funds support all components of the criminal justice system. JAG funded projects may address crime through the provision of services directly to individuals and/or communities and by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of criminal justice systems, processes, and procedures. The DeKalb County's JAG Team, which includes the District Attorney, Public Defender, Juvenile Court, Marshal, Police, Sheriff, Solicitor-General, Drug Court, and DeKalb Schools, propose the following funding allocations:
