PURPOSE:

To obtain Board of Commissioners approval of the Building Opportunities for Out-of-School Time (BOOST) Grant in the amount of $119,000 to be used by the Recreation Division within the Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs Department.

NEED/IMPACT:

Georgia Department of Education provided funds to the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) to establish the Building Opportunities for Out-of-School Time (BOOST) Grant Program for GRPA programs.  The purpose of BOOST is to expand access and enhance services offered by Dekalb County’s RPCA Department after school program. Targeting youth in grades K-12, BOOST will support the learning acceleration, connectedness, and well-being of DeKalb County’s students by utilizing a whole child approach. The Department proposes to expand access to serve more youth, increase programmatic quality and enhance support services offered; and reduce barriers, such as transportation and enrollment costs.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Grant funding of $119,000

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the RPCA Department’s Building Opportunities for Out-of-School Time (BOOST) Grant in the amount of $119,000; and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.
